Jim Kiesling
Jim was appointed to the FDNY in 1987 and moved to Special Operations in 1991. Jim began his career as a fireman in L104, moving to Squad 1 in 1991 and Rescue 2 in 1998. He is currently assigned as a lieutenant in Squad 1.

Along the way he took several short term details some of which were: The Rescue School and the EMS Academy as an Instructor, Haz Mat 1 for Haz Mat experience and when Rescue 6 was put in service during a time of elevated terrorist threat, Jim was one of the Officers until it closed. Upon promotion Jim also held the position of Special Operations Dive Officer for 15 months handling day to day dive operations.

Jim has taught and taken part in curriculum development for the Rescue School since its origin, prior to that teaching for Special Projects. In addition he is an Instructor for the New York State Fire Academy. He is also recognized as an instructor by numerous organizations including: State, National, IAFF, SSI, DOH, AHA, FEMA and DHS.

Jim has been published in Fire Engineering as well as numerous FDNY publications.

In addition to the FDNY Jim is presently a Search Team Manager for FEMA US&R NYTF-1, having also been deployed as a Rescue Specialist, a Rescue Squad Officer and a Technical Search Specialist.
